Finance Minister Ishaq Dar revealed this during a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on ending the trend of illicit tobacco smuggling and tax evasion in the country, and informed that FBR had collected Rs $83.5 billion in the first six months of the current fiscal year, up 26% from taxes collected in the same period last year.

It has been learned that the significant increase in collections from the tobacco sector is due to the implementation of the tracking and tracing system in the cigarette factories.

The Prime Minister said on the occasion that the tax collection system should be improved through the use of modern technologies and better enforcement.

He also ordered the FBR authorities not only to ensure that the tax objectives of the FBR are met in the current fiscal year, but also that the tax evaders are brought to justice.

The Prime Minister also appreciated the efforts of RBF officials to improve the tax system and asked them to intensify their efforts to make significant improvements in the tax collection system.
